Genesis Design California recasts an 80,000 sf industrial warehouse in El Segundo as a creative workplace centered on craft and full-scale making. Serving as the North American design center for Genesis, an innovative automotive company, the facility expresses the brand’s ethos of “New Thinking, New Possibilities” through a precise and adaptable environment.
The program brings together adaptable offices, model-making spaces, showrooms, below-grade vehicle storage, and event areas within a single campus. Central to the building are five full-scale turntable platforms that support 360-degree vehicle presentation, with two located outdoors and paired with amphitheater seating. Indoors, a two-story atrium anchors the building and opens to the exterior through operable walls, allowing light and air to move through the space. Visitors arrive through a calm entry sequence defined by water and a gradual transition from street to studio.
Workspaces prioritize adaptability and well-being. Flexible desks, shared tables, and open collaboration areas allow teams to choose how they work throughout the day. While the project supports the security needs of proprietary design, it avoids the restrictive, access-controlled character typical of technical facilities. An integrated security system protects sensitive programs without interfering with the spatial experience, while landscape elements soften the site perimeter buffer. The project balances innovation and privacy, allowing designers to move seamlessly between focused work, hands-on experimentation, and vehicle prototyping.
