The Owner grew up in this existing 1969 one-story house and imagined the remodeling of the home and the addition of a second floor as a project she wanted to undertake with her elderly parents.

The main design intent was to add some space but more importantly to graciously connect the interiors to the outdoors and the expansive canyon views.

The new design kept the original footprint for the ground floor, but dramatically changed the layout of the existing spaces.

The main floor now consists of an open living-, dining-, and kitchen area where full height, sliding doors open the house up to the exteriors while providing framed views of Stone Canyon Reservoir to the back and of a new courtyard to the front.

An architectural stair of stained white oak makes a bold visual statement by the entrance and divides the public spaces from the more private; a home office, a media room, guest bedrooms with a shared bathroom, as well as a powder room.

The new upper floor consists of two additional bedrooms along with a second living area and a large master bedroom suite, that access a roof deck and overlook the reservoir to the north and the Hollywood hills to the east.

A large window in the master bath provides views all the way to the ocean.

Restrained color- and material palettes keep the architecture focused on the views.
