As part of a Design-Build competition, EYRC developed a Classroom and Office building for University of California, Irvine that honors the site and fulfills the ambitious goals of the University.

The active, forward-thinking building will amplify teaching and learning; the technology inside is state-of-the-art, and the architecture is elegant, inviting; complementing its surroundings.

The orthogonal design responds to the site and its relationship to Aldrich Park, the Ring Mall and a new pedestrian pathway defined by the building.

Spaces inside welcome users to learn in active ways, and to collaborate and interact.

The two-story lobby is inviting and transparent, and the exterior skin of the building complements both the historic and contemporary fabric of the campus.

The program includes two lecture halls – one being a large 400 seat hall with adjacent Media Lounge, multiple Smart- and Active Learning classrooms, informal collaboration areas integrated into circulation zones, and flexible office space for staff and faculty.

The design targets LEED Platinum certification, by incorporating natural light – and innovating ventilation strategies.
