Situated on the northwest corner of the UCLA campus, the Krieger Child Care Center is a single-story, 9,000-square-foot building serving as an addition to an existing child care facility on campus. The roof - designed as a warped plane - covers close to the entire building mass and reaches beyond, creating two covered patio areas, which helps extending the interior classroom spaces to the outdoor.

The building program is divided into three areas: classrooms for 100 additional children, commercial kitchen serving both facilities, and administration/reception.

The various interior programs and building functions are expressed on the exterior through the use of differing materials and the articulation of the overall massing of the building.

The program is organized to form one large building with play yards on either side, where all class rooms will have access to the two play yards, as well as to a toilet room and kitchenette.

A sympathetic response to the bucolic setting.”
